How My Dog Larry Quietly Changed My Life

I have a dog. His name is Larry, and he’s one of the best things that’s happened to me in the last 6 years.

Larry is a rescue dog, and I keep telling my friends and colleagues—especially the ones who’ve always thought about getting a dog but never actually gone through with it—that having a dog is the next best thing to having a baby. The way they change your daily life, your routines, your emotional world… it’s hard to explain until you experience it.

About six or seven months ago, I was working on a Mac app that involved audio. There was a bug in the audio recording playback that produced a very high-pitched trill, and it completely freaked Larry out. Since then, every time I open my laptop, he just runs away.

In a strange way, that’s turned out to be helpful. It forces me to unwind, close my laptop, and go spend time with him instead of staying glued to my screen.

If you have a dog, your quality of life just changes. Happy Friday !
